Bridgeside Machiya is a DIY book nook kit built around a Japanese townhouse and its neighborhood tavern. A red bridge crosses the little pond in front, leading the eye toward an open counter below and a quieter room above. The grey tiled roof, timber framing and warm LED lighting give this Japanese house model a distinct evening character.

Two floors, two places to linger

Downstairs, the izakaya scene brings together sake bottles, miniature sushi platters, counter stools and a small grill. A ginger cat has already claimed one of the seats. Upstairs, a low table and tea setting sit beside a round window, with a slatted blind and little display shelves completing the room. Fish-shaped streamers hang along the side of the house.

The garden beyond the counter

The bridge and pond make the setting part of the model. A garden lantern, stones and a small tree frame the entrance, balancing the busy restaurant interior with a waterside view. From the front, you can take in the tavern, upper room and garden together.

Build the house, then settle into the details
