We normally recognise a butterfly through colour, pattern and delicacy.

EXPOSED removes almost all of that.

What remains is structure — symmetry, geometry and an unexpectedly architectural form. The familiar becomes unfamiliar when the surface is taken away.

Produced on authentic medical imaging film, BUTTERFLY uses density and transparency instead of colour. Viewed against changing light, different parts of the image move forward and disappear again.

It is less a portrait of a butterfly than an examination of what makes one recognisable.
