Nostalgic Corner Shop: a Japanese miniature shop to build

Nostalgic Corner Shop is a DIY book nook kit that recreates a Japanese neighborhood sweet shop in a wide, horizontal format. Inspired by Showa-era storefronts, it combines brown framing, a green-and-white striped awning and windows on two sides. The finished miniature sits alongside books or stands on its own as a small shop diorama. Open the doors and look inside

Both the front and side doors slide open, giving you different views into the room. The entrance is framed by printed signs, hanging snack packets and a blue shaved-ice banner. Two little windbell decorations hang beside the green shop lamp, with a red capsule-machine model and small baskets below. These details give the exterior a familiar corner-store character before you even look at what is on the counter.

A candy counter with a place for every treat

Inside, compartmented display trays hold miniature sweets, while jars, lollipops and printed packages fill the counter and shelves. A white lucky cat sits among the colorful goods. The shelving behind it adds tiny bottles, cups and snack boxes, each bringing another shape or color to the room. The candy and groceries are decorative model pieces: their small labels, containers and arrangements are part of the miniature-making experience.

A reading corner behind the shopfront
