Kurihara Sweet Shop Japanese Book Nook Kit

A Japanese sweet shop to build by hand

Kurihara Sweet Shop is a DIY book nook kit that builds into a freestanding miniature Japanese confectionery. Its open front brings the sweet counter and garden into the same small scene. A dark tile-pattern roof, bamboo-leaf fretwork and green noren-style curtain panels give the facade its distinctive outline. Known in the product artwork as Kanmi-dokoro Kurihara, this wooden miniature kit is a project for people drawn to Japanese shopfronts, tiny food displays and detailed shelf decor.

There is something on every shelf

Wagashi-style sweet replicas sit in trays and patterned boxes, with small packages arranged behind them. A kettle and cup stand near the counter; a blue curtain printed with waves hangs at the back. Higher inside the shop, a maneki-neko figure sits beside a little pine decoration. The garden combines bamboo, layered foliage, printed rocks and a stone-look lantern. Printed surfaces and small assembled parts create these details, including the model sweets, plants and architectural textures.

An afternoon at the craft table

The kit has 227 pieces to assemble into the building, furnishings and garden. The illustrated instructions show the construction in stages, so you can work on the small shop fittings before bringing the scene together. Set aside an afternoon to begin, or divide the making across shorter sessions. Take the time you need to align the parts and place the miniature arrangements. HiNooki recommends this kit for makers aged 14 and over.

A small shop with its own place at home

The labelled product images show a finished size of approximately 14.5 cm wide, 14 cm deep and 19.2 cm high. Allow enough shelf space for that garden base and for a clear view through the open front. Warm LED lighting, operated by a touch switch, brings out the counter and interior decoration. This Japanese sweet-shop book nook can stand beside novels, on a desk or with a collection of miniature houses and shops.

For someone who enjoys Japan and making

Kurihara offers a hands-on gift for a miniature enthusiast or someone who enjoys Japanese-inspired interiors and confectionery displays. The result is a little diorama to keep and look into, with the work of making it as part of its appeal. HiNooki lists English instructions and battery-powered lighting. Glue and batteries are not included in the store’s shipment; follow the enclosed guide when preparing supplies. Household books, full-size sweets, tea cups and other surrounding photo props are separate from the kit.
