Retro Magic Shop
Retro Magic Shop: a folding DIY miniature house kit
A magic shop to build and keep
Retro Magic Shop is a DIY miniature house kit with a green-and-gold shopfront and a furnished wizard’s workshop inside. The curved display window, narrow side cabinet and little central door give the finished model the character of an old curiosity shop. Miniature books, rolled papers and decorative objects fill its shelves. Build it yourself, then display the small shop beside your fantasy novels, on a desk or among a collection of handmade miniatures.
One model, two views of the shop
The front of the model folds outward through 180 degrees to expose the workshop behind it. Unfolding the shop makes the furnished interior part of the display. With the front folded back, the desk, book cabinet and wall details are easy to see. Close the front to enjoy the bowed shop window and gold-edged signs; the smaller entrance door also opens independently. Allow space around the model when you want to display it unfolded.
Furnish a miniature wizard’s workshop
A pointed lattice window stands beside a cabinet stacked with small books and paper scrolls. On the worktable, an open book and a blue orb sit among little decorative objects, with a gold-colored chain draped over the edge. A trunk and more rolled papers occupy the shelf beneath. Across the room, a tiny stove adds another focal point. These are physical miniature furnishings and craft details that you put in place as part of building the shop.
Warm lighting behind the green window
The kit’s touch-sensitive lighting brings a warm glow to the interior. Small lights along the upper part of the room illuminate the shelves, while the miniature stove has a glowing fire effect. Seen through the front window, the lighting reveals the layers of objects beyond the green frame. Open the shop to look directly into the lit workshop. The stove is a miniature light effect, and the books, ornaments and furnishings remain decorative model pieces.
A project for several making sessions
The 230-piece kit uses hardboard, electronic components and assorted DIY accessories. Its source assembly estimate is around 16 hours; your own pace and the time spent on small details will affect the build. Plan several sessions so you can enjoy putting the room together. When folded closed, the finished model measures approximately 16.2 cm wide, 11 cm deep and 14.1 cm high. As a gift for a fantasy reader or miniature-making enthusiast, it offers a hands-on project followed by a small workshop to return to on the shelf.
